Let me start off by saying that my first thought was to give them 3 stars. However, our waitress alone and her service throughout the entire night was what got them this fourth star! The boyfriend and I have often talked about BJs... but it was never really on my list. I went YEARS ago and barely remember my experience.. the only thing I could remember was that they had fried brussel sprouts as an appetizer and I thought my burger was just okay. But we were out and about looking for a date night place and we decided 'what the heck'.
The atmosphere and ambiance is great. Tons of seating, but you don't feel crowded when its full. Dim lighting which is always great for date nights. We were seated right away, which is always good! As I mentioned, our waitress was GREAT! She was there to get our drink order quickly and she was very helpful with helping my boyfriend get an alcoholic beverage (he loves the sweet fruity drinks)! I knew right away that I wanted to order the brussel sprouts... but we decided to take our time before putting in the order. Our waitress was attentive but not overbearing. She always came just at the right times to check on us and see if we had any questions.
Lets start off with the good points of our meal.. brussel sprouts were delicious... I need to remember to order extra sriracha sauce though! But I do love the crispy friend leaves! For my entree I went with the Parmesan crusted chicken with lemon sauce and I ordered couscous mac and cheese and mashed potatoes for my sides! I enjoyed everything about my dish! The lemon sauce on the chicken was soooo citrusy and paired great with the crispy Parmesan crust! The chicken was extremely moist as well, which is always a good thing! The only minor negative thing I would have to say is that I ordered my sauce without tomatoes.. and I wish I would have known the mac and cheese came with tomatoes because I hate tomatoes!! But that is where the good points end... My boyfriend really wanted pork-chops, but they were sadly already out for the evening... which we will take as a good thing. So he went with the tri-tip steak and shrimp with baked potato and green beans. Unfortunately, the only thing he finished was the shrimp. The steak was super tough and chewy (yes he is aware that is how is should be, but it was almost inedible). As for the green beans, they were pretty bland and could have used another minute cooktime. And his baked potato... well it seemed over cooked... like it was sitting up on the pass for too long waiting for the rest of his dish to be made. When our waitress came over and could see I was basically done with my plate but he still had all his food left she could tell something was wrong. He spoke to her about his plate and she was she apologized and asked if he would like to order something else. He decided to get the baked ziti pasta and just by smelling it his reaction was that he should have ordered it to begin with! So kudos to our waitress for making it right!
So BJs is well known for their famous pizookies! And me being a baker and always have a natural sweet tooth.. we always try to save room for dessert! We decided on the fruity pebbles one and we got the monkey bread one as well! Originally the plan was that we were going to share! But that didn't happen! He was more into the monkey bread one and I didn't want to give up another bite of the fruity pebbles! By the end of the night, our waitress had definitely earned herself a nice tip. She even went above and beyond and gave us a pizookie for free! Both of our parents were in the restaurant business for years.... and there definitely needs to be more waitstaff like her! Soooo.. THANK YOU ASHLEY FOR A GREAT EVENING OF SERVICE AND LAUGHS!!! Because of you, we will be returning for another dinner date!!! -

Got there about 945p on a Friday evening. We were told the wait was about 15 mins with alot of open (dirty) tables. It's cool, I'm pregnant and just HAD to have the bbq chicken salad. About 10 mind later we get sat. The server takes about 10 mins to greet us (not unusual) and get the drink order. Another 10 mins to drop a soda and lemonade. We order an app (spinach dip, per the servers recommendation) and ask for more time for the food. About 5 more minutes we place the order (salad for me, brisket burger for my husband) Over 15 mins later the app gets dropped. It is so cold that the chip my husband attempts to dip in it breaks. We've both been in the service food industry, this spinach dip isnt made from scratch in the back and we dont want it microwaved so we send it back with another (random) server since ours isnt available. No apologies, no questions. She says "ok" and takes it away.
Another 10ish mins the good comes. Mine is fine (exception is that I ordered my salad with avocado which I know I'm going to pay heavy for Andy get a serving the size of a teaspoon (not table spoon, teaspoon) but my husbands burger us a gross mess of stuff piled on top and spilling out and its like warm while his fries are literally cold. Hes hungry so decides to eat the burger but I want some of his fries so I get a manager and ask for fresh ones. Fresh fries come at the same time as the manager. Shes nice, polite, but doesnt seem to care about the "opportunity with the food" as she puts it and simply asks what she can do. I as for more avocado and she looks at my bowl as if to see how much I received. I would he lying if I said I wasnt frustrated at this point. We still have empty glasses and dirty dishes sitting at our table that neither the manager nor our sever pick up the entire meal.
We end up getting offered a free cookie thing which was the freshest part of our meal. It's at that point our server decided to clear the entire table and drop the ticket with "no rush" being mentioned neither do we get offered refills on either of our empty glasses. Obviously we were finished eating there
The server is named zach. He was ok, but needs to work on his refilling, clearing, and checking in skills. He sure was special at the other 2 tables he had around us. -

If you've never been to BJ's, it's a large chain with restaurants all over the country. It serves an eclectic mix of bar food, pizza, and a variety of other fare. As with most popular chain restaurants, this one consistently puts out decent food, as evidenced by the wait lines.
We usually try to dine out on Mondays and Tuesdays to avoid the lines, and our strategy worked for us this evening. We were shown to our table right away, given menus, and our drink orders were taken. Since we are trying to eat a bit healthier and watch our calories, we ordered from the "Enlightened Menu." My husband chose the Pacific Poke Soba Noodles, and I chose the Bahn Mi Turkey Burger.
Our meals were delivered surprisingly fast. Although the accompaniments on my turkey burger were "reminiscent" of a Bahn Mi, it just didn't deliver the flavors I'd hoped to experience. The burger was very good though, and I'd gladly order it again. My husband's meal was cool, refreshing, and extremely tasty. The tuna was fresh, without any hints of ammonia, and the noodles cooked perfectly al dente. He commented he'd like to have a little more sesame oil flavor in the dressing, but that was personal preference and not an indication of poor quality. All in all, our meals were very good.
It's really hard to get a bad meal from a popular chain restaurant. Their menus are developed to appeal to a wide range of palates, and the recipes standardized and perfected. Although we prefer mom and pop local eateries or chef driven places, we know we'll always get something decent here. -

We love BJ's restaurant! We have been eating here for years so I don't know why I haven't reviewed it before. I love that they have such a wide variety of delicious foods to choose from, pizzas, pasta dishes, delicious salmon! They also have a great variety of drinks, which I love! The service is always extremely friendly and as many times as we've been here there has never been an issue with our food or drinks.
